What would I have done without Snoogle during my two pregnancies?

Snoogles can get a little dirty when you spend so much time wrapped in one, like I did with both of my girls over the course of the last three months (I’m not exaggerating).

When you have a potty-trained child? I’m sure you’ve heard all about it!

The Snoogle pillow can be washed and dried in the washing machine without losing its shape, so keep reading to find out how.

Is a Pregnancy Pillow Worth It?

A Snoogle, if you don’t already own one, is an absolute must during pregnancy.

I don’t think I would have been able to go through the ordeal of pregnancy without one.

Both of my full-term pregnancies were plagued by excruciating back pain, and I even attempted a pregnant bump support to help ease the ache.

And while this add-on was fine, the assistance provided by my Snoogle was far superior.

This gentleman became my constant companion in 2020, when I spent a lot of time at home and slept with it every night.

The next morning, I woke up feeling like a rock star, and from then on, I used it whenever I wanted relief.

There are a LOT of pregnancy-related products out there, I can assure you.

However, if I had to narrow it down to just two products, these would be at the top of my list:

  1. folate-containing prenatal vitamins, not folic acid*
  2. Pregnancy cushion with a snoogle design

The natural form of vitamin B9, folate, is superior to the synthetic version, folic acid.

Is C Shaped or U Shape Pregnancy Pillow Better?

The C-shaped pregnancy pillow I used was really comfortable!

I’m sure the U-shaped cushion would have been fine for nighttime snoozes, but I needed the added support given by wrapping the C-shaped pillow around myself.

For the type of wrap I enjoy, I don’t think the U Shape would have been suitable.

Even though I’m not pregnant anymore, I know how difficult it is to find a place to store a C-shaped cushion; I shudder to think of where I’d put a U-shaped one!

Can a Pregnancy Pillow be used for Breastfeeding?

Yes!

That wrap around convenience is another reason why I went with the C-shaped pillow.

It’s a great postpartum pillow and a great nursing pillow, too!

Can you Wash a Pregnancy Pillow?

If you’re reading this tutorial, you’ve probably come across it for one of two reasons:

  1. Snoogle’s pregnancy pillow has been soiled by you or a loved one.
  2. You are currently standing in a maternity store wondering what the heck you would do with this thing if situation 1 occurs

You are currently standing in a maternity store wondering what the heck you would do with this thing if situation 1 occurs

You’re in a maternity store right now, trying to figure out what you’ll do if scenario 1 happens.

Accidents are bound to occur!

When I’d wrap myself in my Snoogle pillow, my oldest daughter loved to sit on my lap and watch cartoons.

My oldest kid was napping on my lap while I wore the C Shaped pillow for back support in this picture. ‘

Unfortunately, she didn’t immediately stop and use the restroom as she should have.

The pillow’s instructions state to only spot clean it. Oh no!

Could I get rid of my pricey but vital for coping with pregnancy pillow now that I’m no longer pregnant?

That is a categorical NO!

Is there any chance that I’ll be sleeping on a spot that’s been sanitized? Thank you, but no thanks!

So I put my Snoogle in the washing machine to check if it would fit in there.

How to Wash a Pregnancy Pillow

In order to wash a pregnant pillow, follow these step-by-step instructions.

Please wash at your own risk. It’s up to you to decide what happens to your pillow. A detailed explanation of how I laundered my pregnant cushion is included in this post for educational purposes. However, the outcome isn’t a foregone conclusion.

  1. Keep your pillow safe by only washing it in a front-loading washing machine!
  2. Remove the Removable Cover* from your pregnancy pillow.
  3. Take care of your Snoogle cushion by yourself.
  4. If your pillow and/or Removable Cover are particularly discolored, you may want to use a moderate liquid washing detergent to clean them.
  5. Two to five minutes is a reasonable amount of time to wait.
  6. Add a small amount of gentle detergent to your washing machine.
  7. Warm water and a moderate cycle is all that is needed to clean.
  8. If you still have extra water in your pillow, try squeezing it out over a sink.
  9. Pregnancy pillows can be washed in the dryer
  10. With the addition of wool drying balls (I generally use four), you can ensure that your pillows stay in their original shape as they dry.
  11. Use a low to moderate heat setting on the dryer to dry**.
  12. If necessary, repeat.
  13. Check for any moist patches on your pillow by laying it flat on a large couch or your bed.
  14. The dryer can be used to dry it further if necessary.
  15. To remove stubborn stains from your pillow, dry it with a hairdryer set to medium heat when it has dried to around 90 percent of its original state.
  16. After a thorough cleaning, your pregnancy pillow is ready for use again.

Removable Covers and other pillow cases go in the washer together for me. Using my maternity pillow to wash the Removable Covers causes the covers to get twisted, thus I end up needing to do another wash.

To dry the pillow, I always select the “extremely” option on our dryer’s dryness setting, which reads “damp,” and it usually takes two 45-minute cycles.

How to Wash Snoogle Removable Cover

  1. Remove the Removable Cover from the Pillow before cleaning it.
  2. If the stain is really stubborn, use a small amount of mild liquid laundry detergent to pre-treat it.
  3. On a gentle cycle, use a mild detergent and warm water.*
  4. Warm delicate cycle in the dryer

The pillow cases can be washed with normal household pillow cases

Pregnancy Pillow Maintenance Tips

Consider purchasing a second Removable Cover to keep your pillow in top condition.

To my disappointment, the Sage color I purchased was difficult to put on, even if the color and material are lovely.

Snoogle Replacement Cover has no zipper, so you’ll have to stuff your pillow in like sausage casings to get it in.

A zipped cover like this would have been a better choice if I had read the product description more thoroughly.

Because being able to quickly and simply replace the cover on your Snoogle when you’re nine months pregnant is a fantastic sensation.

To clean your Snoogle pregnancy pillow, follow these instructions:

  • wash your clothes in a front-loading machine.
  • Your pillow should be taken out of its case.
  • self-cleaning
  • Warm gentle cycle washing with light detergent
  • Use a low-heat setting to gently dry clothes.
  • To keep your pillow’s shape, use wool dryer balls.

Enjoy your new pregnant pillow as much as possible!

I’m sending my best wishes for a stress-free pregnancy and delivery, mama

What is a Snoogle Pillow?

Using a Snoogle pillow, you may rest easy knowing that it was made with your comfort in mind. You can expect a better night’s sleep because of the mattress’ capacity to conform to the shape of your body. The pillow’s horseshoe design assures that it will effortlessly conform to your body’s specific contours.

You can use the Snoogle pillow to support your back or your stomach because of the long middle. Because of the curved design, you’ll sleep cooler and more comfortably no matter what position you’re in. You can get a better night’s sleep with a Snoogle pillow if you’re having difficulties falling asleep.

Using a Washing Machine to Wash Your Snoogle Pillow

In either case, you can wash your pillow by hand or in the washing machine. Read the pillow’s care label before washing it so that you don’t miss out on any vital information.

This is because, except for specially designed objects, the washing directions are normally provided on the care label. Alternatively, if the pillow doesn’t come with a product description, you can go online and read it.

In addition, you must ensure that the cushion fits tightly into the washing machine. Make sure there’s enough room for it to move around while it’s being washed.

If you frequently have to shove the pillow into the laundry, it may be too large. If you force it, you run the risk of causing harm to the washer. A hand wash may be the best option if the pillow is particularly bulky.

Cotton, polyester, and down pillows can all be washed in the washing machine. In contrast, it is recommended that you wash memory foam pillows by hand. There is one exception to this rule: if your Snoogle pillow can be machine washed and fits inside the washer, you may go to the next step.

Step 1. Check if the cover should be washed separately

First, remove the cover of your Snoogle pillow and determine if it has to be washed separately from the rest of it. In order to prevent the micro-beads or styrofoam peanuts from falling out during the wash, zip the cushion tightly before placing it in the washer.

If you don’t wash anything, it will make more mess than if you leave it out. A safety pin can also be used to secure the zipper-pull to the pillow, ensuring that it remains closed at all times. Making your laundry more difficult is the last thing you need.

Step 2. Put the pillow in the washer and add a detergent with a mild formula

The next step is to wash the cushion with a moderate detergent in the washing machine. Make sure that your detergent does not contain any additional chemicals or odors throughout the washing process in order to avoid any damage. If you have sensitive skin, stay away from harsh detergents because they can irritate it.

Use a moderate cycle to clean the pillow. When doing this, be sure to use only warm water. Both bleach and washing your pillow in the same machine as other things might damage it.

Step 3. Use cold water to rinse the pillow before drying it

Place the pillow in the dryer after rinsing it in cold water. Use the lowest heat setting possible when drying your pillow to avoid shrinking, distorting, or melting it.

It will take less time to dry the cushion if you put two tennis balls in the dryer with it. Make sure the pillow is drying evenly by taking it out of the dryer for a few minutes. You can re-dry it if necessary if it still doesn’t feel completely dry.

Handwashing Your Snoogle Pillow

Cotton, down, and synthetic pillows work well with this technique. Hand washing is an option if the pillow won’t fit in the washer or you choose to be gentle. To begin, you’ll need two tubs of water.

Add a small amount of mild detergent to the warm water in one of the tubs. After that, give the cushion a quick soak. The pillow can also be kneaded or scrubbed with a tiny upholstery brush to remove stains or discolouration.

Remove the pillow from the washing water and wring it out until it’s dry. Soak it for a few seconds in the second tub, which has cold water. The pillow should be rinsed multiple times to eliminate all of the soapy residue.

To dry the cushion, you can alternatively use a clean towel. This will assist speed up the pillow’s drying period and preserve its shape. You can let it air dry on a clothesline if you like.

Another method is to air dry the cushion by laying it flat on a flat surface. Make sure the pillow is thoroughly dry by moving or rotating it several times. Your goal is to avoid a wet pillow for as long as possible.
