When feasible, Growing Spaces aims to give back to the community. Growing Domes funding have previously been awarded to non-profits and underserved communities. For the year 2020, we decided to target urban regions in need of affordable organic products, thus we launched the Urban Farming Grants. The grant’s goal is to bring together people who want to learn how to grow fresh, healthy, and nutritious food year-round in a Growing Dome Greenhouse.

When giving in-kind grants, we put a lot of care and consideration into the mission and vision of the grant applicants. We looked at the nonprofit’s history, stability, validity, impact & reach of the planned initiative, support network, and other funding options. Grant Winner – Black Nickel – Washington, DC

The Dix Street Garden in Ward 7 of Washington, DC, will benefit greatly from this award, which will provide more than 1,000 pounds of produce to the market. Because to COVID-19, this area has been popularly regarded as a food desert. First successful Black Farmers’ Market in almost 50 years is the goal of these organizers. A Black Nickel Market will be held in rebuilt farms and gardens as part of the Seeds To Nickel program in order to promote the work of local farmers and entrepreneurs.

When Black Nickel and Hustlaz 2 Harvesters were looking for greenhouse options for an applied research community garden, they came across Growing Spaces. They also saw a video of one of our Growing Domes.

It was immediately apparent to us how many children would be enthused about the community garden when they saw the new structure.” Not only is this a win for Ward 7, but for the entire city. Having a building like this provided to benefit the community throughout the year is a win for Washington, DC. Grant Winner – Peace Tree Parks – Detroit, MI

Peace Tree Parks in Detroit, Michigan, is the recipient of our second grant. A 501(c)(3) organization, Peace Tree Parks was founded in 2015. Their goal is to make organic and non-GMO food more accessible to low-income families and communities so that they can have a positive impact on the neighborhoods where their young people live.

To learn more about our grant program and Growing Spaces, Peace Tree Parks visited our website and found our grants page. When they learned they had been selected for a grant, they expressed their gratitude by saying,

Both Black Nickel and Peace Tree Parks’ team members told us that they were pleased to have a Growing Dome not just to offer their communities with healthy organic food, but also to create a space where kids and adults could gather together. Growing Spaces Urban Farming Grant

Having had a successful year in 2021, we’ve chosen to keep up the good work of bringing fresh, inexpensive, nutritious meals to underserved metropolitan areas.

We’ll use the same set of standards as in 2021 while making our decision this year:

The proposed project’s impact and reach in an urban community.
The initiative has a network of supporters and various sources of funding.
The organization/history, institution’s stability, and legitimacy
Considering the project’s location in terms of climate compatibility and the availability of fresh, organic food,
A steadfast advocate who will see the project through to completion and who will act as a
long-term impact on the neighborhood

We had a difficult time deciding between so many worthy causes, but in the end, two groups stood out. Choosing the causes for which these in-house donations are awarded is a labor of love for the staff at Growing Spaces.

School Garden Grants

Grants totaling over $10 million have been provided by the Colorado Garden Foundation to support gardening and horticulture initiatives in the Centennial State to date. The Colorado Home and Garden Show donates its whole net profit to help fund these amazing garden grants. This year’s grant cycle will restart in early summer of the following year.

In order to promote healthy lunches, Chef Ann’s Foundation provides the resources and financing necessary. In addition to purchasing food from local organic farms, this includes the creation of youth garden plots. School Food, Salad Bars, and The Lunch Box are among the current programs they are supporting. As a result of Covid19, the grant application procedure has been put on hold.

In order to encourage new or existing edible educational gardens, Whole Foods Market offers a $3,000 award. March 31, 2022 is the deadline for submitting an application. On August 2nd, 2022, all applicants will be notified, and packages will arrive in September of that year.

A non-profit called Salad Bars to Schools provides free salad bars to schools. The awarding process is presently on hold due to COVID, however you can still submit an application for consideration when granting activities begin again.

An educational program for children to learn about bees and the importance of honey bees is supported by the Bee Cause Project. In 2022, the Bee Grant Program will have a new look! The Bee Cause Project, in cooperation with the Whole Kids Foundation, is pleased to announce the Renewal Bee Grant. Open Discussion on Gardening with Children With the help of gardening grants, young minds can blossom. Gardening has been shown to improve health and well-being in communities across the United States, according to the Gro More Good Foundation and KidsGardening. Between January 4th, 2022 and February 4, 2022, you can apply for a job.

One-stop shop for everything schools need to develop or enhance a school garden is the American Heart Association Teaching Gardens Network. With your membership, you’ll have access to the Teaching Gardens Network’s grant opportunities, free gardening supplies and resources, digital cross-curricular curriculum based on standards for gardening and nutrition instruction, and acknowledgment on their website. Growing the next generation of gardeners through the Bonnie Plants 3rd Grade Kids Cabbage Program (temporarily suspended due to COVID-19). In any case, if you’d like to have free cabbage plants delivered to your classroom, you can still register your class.

Grants for school gardens are available through the California Fertilizer Foundation. Due to COVID-19 constraints, the deadlines for CFF Garden Grant applications have been postponed.

Community Garden Grants

The “EcoConnexions From the Ground Up” awards program was created in collaboration between America in Bloom and CN Railway. CN travels through a broad variety of urban and rural areas as part of its genuine transcontinental network, which stretches to all three North American coasts. Natural landscaping, groundcover improvement, and flower displays are just some of the ways we urge the communities along the CN corridor to do their part in improving the environment in their own neighborhoods.

Home Depot offers discounts to its customers. There are two grant possibilities available right now at Home Depot. In order to help support community projects, they offer up to $5,000 in Community Impact Grants to registered nonprofit groups. They have a Veterans Housing Grants Program to support NGOs with the creation and rehabilitation of multi-unit complexes for veterans. Between $100,000 to $500,000 is normal for awards.

We provide grants, crowdfunding opportunities, and training to food garden programs throughout the world through Seed Money, based in Maine.

Gro More Good Garden Grants are available to low-income families to help them grow their own food. 2020-2021 Garden Grants applications will be accepted from November 1, 2020, through December 18, 2020, for the next two years.

For schools in California and Arizona, Western Growers Foundation’s Collective School Garden Network is available.

There are a variety of opportunities, support resources, and events offered by the American Community Gardening Association.

Veterans and Disability Garden Grants

Disabled Trust’s Gardening Program Adapting Gardens, Transforming Lives, and Defying Disability. Allowing disabled folks a second chance at gardening through funding is a great idea.

Grants from the USDA for veterans who want to return to agriculture. Enhancing Agriculture Opportunities for Military Veterans provides grants to non-profits in order to increase the number of military veterans who gain the necessary knowledge and skills for a successful career in food and agriculture through comprehensive, hands-on and immersive model farm and ranch programs.

Grants from the National Garden Bureau for therapeutic garden programs help persons who have been traumatized heal. Therapeutic gardens across North America are being supported by a charity initiative initiated by the National Garden Bureau in 2014. Gardeners and non-gardeners alike will benefit from this program, which furthers NGB’s objective to spread gardening knowledge and enthusiasm.

Organic Farming and Horticulture Grants

Future Farmers of America Living to Serve Grants allow FFA chapters and state FFA associations/foundations to apply for funding to support a wide range of service projects through a competitive application process.

Grants from the Blooming Prairie Foundation support new approaches to organic and natural food production. The grant application for the 2020 fiscal year has been closed. Keep an eye out for the following round in January 2021.

Research into the horticultural, scientific, and/or social usage of herb gardens throughout history is the purpose of this award. The application process for the 2022 school year has begun. We’ll find out who won on May 1st, 2022.

ReLeaf Funding – gives grants to network members and other groups that care about trees in California by way of a pass-through award.
